This project for The University of Akron consists of a full interior and partial exterior renovation of an existing, 14,000 square foot building for the University's Department of Counseling. Originally constructed in 1971, the building served its life as a multi-tenant office structure, with uses that included a bank and grocery store. An extremely tight budget required creative thinking by the entire project team. Exterior improvements included roof replacement, entry door replacement, and basement waterproofing and misc. masonry repairs. Interior work consisted of all new mechanical systems, new electrical service, and distribution, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and 75% interior demolition to accommodate the new floor plan requirements. Many meetings were conducted with the end users to establish a floor plan, which fit the complex needs of the department, which not only teaches counseling but also administers services to the community and other clients. |
