The program for this project was to reconfigure library functions and adjoining spaces to take better advantage of interior space available, and to create new spaces that could serve a multitude of different functions as opposed to a single use. With the creation of an internet/ cyber cafe within the library that is visible from the entry and other public areas, it will encourage students and visitors to enter and use the library. In addition, a Student Success Suite was created to house offices for the Student Success coordinator, writing instruction labs and a space for special student services and tutoring. The goal was to create a library that is inviting and useful to the broader community, and not just the KSU staff and their students. It was hoped to create an architectural centerpiece for the campus to support recruiting and academic growth. Green initiatives were to be implemented on this project, such as energy efficient lighting fixtures, use of occupancy sensors, and the specification of new materials that had recycled content.
