This complex (2) phase project consists of master planning the conversion of the former heating plant for the University into studios and facilities for the school of art. The project involved abating and removing a significant amount of hazardous materials and asbestos, along with re-routing and re-configuring many existing utility services, many of which serve distant areas of campus. Phase I consists of renovating the eastern half of the building into studios for the sculpture department, distributed over (3) floors with the first floor being utilized as a wood and metal working shop. The second and third levels consist of restrooms, student studios, faculty studios and a critique studio. The fourth floor is dedicated for future expansion. New stairs and elevators were added to allow for egress to all levels. This exciting project has created new life into a building that has long been isolated from public use.
