The intent of the R-19 parking expansion was to unify and expand an under-utilized parking area between (4) existing buildings. The goal was to maximize the number of parking spaces within the area while maintaining the contextual integrity of the surroundings. Several old-growth trees were preserved and an efficient flow of traffic was developed. 72 parking spaces with lighting were incorporated along with pedestrian walkway connections between buildings and to major circulation routes. From contract award to completion of bid documents was approximately (4) weeks. An adjoining future sculpture court for the Art Department was also conceptually planned. Final bids for the project were received at 30% below the project budget.
