The overall intent of this project was to improve the existing (9) classrooms on the first floor of the building as much as the limited budget would allow. Water source heat pump units in each room were replaced, along with related temperature controls. Existing surface mounted light fixtures were replaced with new recessed parabolic fixtures to improve the quality of light in each room. New vinyl floor tile was installed on a plywood substrate over exsiting vinyl asbestos tile. Existing plaster walls were skim coated to improve the finish and accent colors were incorporated to add visual interest to each room. The timeframe of the project, from kickoff meeting to completion of bid documents was less than 3 weeks. A series of bid alternates were developed that allowed a larger scope of work to be bid, while maintaining a strict bidding budget. The work was completed for approximately $28.00 per square foot.
