This project for The Ohio State University consists of a stand alone, 6 level cast in place concrete parking structure to serve the OSU Medical Center. Located at the southern edge of the Columbus campus, Payto Architects was challenged to create a garage that was sympathetic to the neighborhood while working within limited site constraints. The exterior cladding consists of perforated aluminum metal in (2) colors that form a gradient pattern along the length of the façade. Color changing LED lighting illuminates the north façade while the south façade takes on a different aesthetic to screen the ramps interior to the garage. The interior function consisted of a double helix, (3) bay system with one-way traffic. Stair and elevator towers are glass with stainless steel handrails. Traffic coating and epoxy coated rebar were included to reduce long-term maintenance costs. Streetscape and alley improvements were also included to create a seamless connection to the surrounding context. |
