kent state university ASHTABULA LIBRARY

The objective for this project was to update the interior of the 1970's branch campus library, reorienting the functions of the library and integrating new computer labs, circulation desk and electronic classroom. Due to the nature of the Campus, the Library also served a dual function as the center of student activities, this was embraced in the technological improvements which makeup the core of the program. A large area of the first floor was converted into a student only computer lab and Cyber Cafe for internet access. Study lounges and an Electronic Classroom were created on the second floor. With a very limited budget and time frame, Payto Architects was able to take a full wish list of items and collectively prioritize them into publicly bid documents through a series of alternate bids. This allowed us to achieve all the University's goals while staying under budget.
