This 2-phase project converts the former heating plant for the University's Main Campus into teaching studios and facilities for the School of Art. The project involved significant abatement and removal of hazardous materials from the East side of the building. Spaces were created for a wood and metal shop, faculty and student studios, critique space and future expansion. New stairs and elevators were added to facilitate circulation through the new spaces. 
The existing smoke stacks were reduced to half their original height to aleviate safety concerns. The new architecture with a modern aesthetic is intended to accentuate the turn of the century details and character of the original building. Internal spaces were intentional left raw to provide a blank canvas to creative functions they house.
