kent state university ICE ARENA

The program for this project was to incorporate new home and visiting team locker rooms and a new 175 seat spectator area into the existing competition hockey rink. Existing space limitations confined the renovation to an area that was 24' in depth by the length of the rink, with major budgetary limitations. Through creative planning and bidding, the project was able to capture the new team locker facilities along with the seating gallery, while bidding a later phase as an alternate. The design consisted of a flat concrete slab over the locker rooms, to support the spectator area, accompanied by new stairs and chair lift for access. A new ticketing area was created at the lobby to make the competition rink more appealing and inviting to the overall lobby space. Supplemental items included in the project were the replacement of the entire building fire alarm system and a limited areas sprinkler system under the seating area. A few years later Payto Architects was commissioned to renovated the existing public restrooms for the Ice Arena. Scope of work included reconfiguring the restroom to achieve ADA compliance as well as updating finishes and fixtures within the space.
