mt. sinai medical center ADDITION
The six-story 200,110 square feet addition to the existing hospital structure was a relatively small piece of in-fill architecture tucked neatly between the sprawling, deeply fenestrated concrete parking garage and its 10-story blue-green tower. The new entrance portal was designed to look like a piece of sculpture in a setting, rather than the front door of an institution. Through the portal is the lobby, gift shop, chapel and administrative offices on the ground floor. On the upper five levels are surgery rooms, X-ray facilities, a mechanical floor and two floors of patient rooms. The new portion of the building added dynamism to this severely constrained urban site.
