case western reserve university VEALE NATATORIUM

The program was to replace the existing, insufficient grandstands with new 850 seat capacity grandstands for viewing of collegiate swim competitions. Team locker rooms were improved and enlarged under the new seating and coaches offices overlooking the pool were included. The project scope also commissioned Payto Architects to create a new facade and entryway alongside the existing gymnasium. The second level of this facade contains a new Cardio-Vascular exercise area, which has become one of the most popular on campus. Due to the lack of documentation of the existing conditions, intensive structural analysis and close field work with the general contractor were essential to ensuring a successful project. This project's success can be measured by the fact that it integrates seamlessly in the tightly knit campus fabric.
