This facility was tailored specifically to the needs of members of the Salem Community. Program includes: indoor pool, full court gymnasium, performance stage, indoor running track, exercise equipment room, locker rooms with sauna facilities, flexible community meeting rooms, full service commercial kitchen, daycare center and administrative offices. Payto Architects was also hired to design an addition to the community center housing an indoor soccer facility and second gymnasium space. Both designs followed the client's desire for a "modern feel" within the parameters of the colonial, western reserve style prevalent in the community. In the executed design solution, building volumes were carefully placed on the site to the best advantage of the surrounding residences. Materials are in keeping with the vernacular combined with a careful juxtaposition of other modern materials to create a delicate balance and giving the building a comfortable, yet current feeling.
